3 Tips For Keeping Your Eyes Healthy And Safe While On Vacation

Whether you have an impromptu getaway or a family vacation planned, you are probably extremely excited. However, you want to ensure that you are fully prepared for an excellent adventure and that nothing (or as little as possible) goes wrong so that you can enjoy your time away from home. The following three tips will ensure that your eyes remain safe and healthy while traveling:

Tip #1: Pack an Extra Pair

You never know when something is going to go wrong, especially when you are away from home. Therefore, make sure that you pack an additional pair of contacts or eyeglasses. Also, if you typically wear contacts, you may want to pack your spare pair of eyeglasses in the event that you need to take a break from the contact lenses. You will also want to make sure that you have a copy of your current prescription just in case you find yourself in a pinch and need to get a pair of contacts or glasses.

Tip #2: Don't Forget Your Sunglasses

Your eyes are extremely sensitive to the sun, even if you don't realize it. So, you will want to get those sunglasses packed in your suitcase. Also, don't think that you only need sunglasses for the beach, as you will also need them for the snowy mountains as well because the sun's rays will bounce off of the snow (and it's a lot brighter than you think!). When selecting a pair of sunglasses, try to look for a pair that block 99 to 100 percent of both UVA and UVB rays. For maximum coverage, opt for style frames that wraparound or are simply larger in size.

Tip #3: Schedule an Eye Exam

Last, but not least, you want to call your eye doctor and schedule an eye exam. This is particularly true if you have been having problems with your vision lately, you are due for an exam or your prescription has recently expired. In some cases, your prescription can change and you not realize, so it doesn't hurt to simply schedule that exam and just make sure everything is on track. After all, if your vision is blurry, then you won't be able to see all the sights and truly enjoy your vacation.

The aforementioned three tips will help protect your eyes as you embark on a wonderful trip with your significant other, entire family or alone. Call your eye doctor for more tips on how to protect your eyes while traveling and to schedule that eye examination before you leave for your trip.
